During the full moon of the third lunar month, the Buddhist festival Meak Bochea took place, commemorating the Buddha's sermons to his disciples before his death. It celebrates, in particular, the principles of doing no harm, doing good, and purifying one's mind.
Buddhism being the main religion in Cambodia, its teachings are an integral part of the local culture. This is why our team at the center also teaches these principles to the women in our care, especially forgiveness towards those who have hurt them. This is an important step towards their healing and inner peace.
Thus, during these festivities, the entire center was abuzz with activity. While the adults took care of the practical arrangements, the children prepared lanterns using terracotta pots and string.
After the official visit to the temple for prayer, a nighttime meditation session was held in the center's courtyard with the participation of a Buddhist monk. This nighttime meditation, illuminated by the dance of lanterns, invited everyone at the center to a profound connection with the present moment.
Each flame, alive and vibrant, dances without ever stopping; transforms without ever going out. Like our charges and their incredible resilience, it continues to twinkle in the night and illuminate the promise of a brighter future.
